Assessment scoring allows you to provide assessments with values to provide you with metrics on that assessment. Scoring of an assessment happens on three basic levels:
-
Question Weight: This is the number of points the Question is worth total. This is the maximum number of points that can be awarded for a particular Question. This value is set at the question template level.
-
Answer Option Weight %: This is the percentage of the total value of the Question that will be awarded for a particular answer to that Question. This value is set at the answer option level.
-
Section Weight %: This is the percentage of the total value of an Assessment that an individual Section is weighted. This value is set at the section template level.
To better understand how to implement scoring on an assessment below is a list of steps on how to execute the necessary steps.
Scoring can be added to any assessment either during creation or retroactively. For ease of demonstration, we will just be showing the addition of scoring to an assessment that has already been created. So at this time you should create a simple assessment with a section or two holding a couple question templates and answer options.
First, you will navigate the Assessment Template that you are intending to implement assessment scoring on.
On this page, you will scroll down to the Section Templates section and click on one of the section templates.
Here you are viewing all the details related to this section. You will see the field Section Weight (%), by default this value is set to 0. Click Edit to input a new value for this field.
You are now on the Section Template Edit page where you can change the value of the Section Weight (%). Let’s say we want this section to account for 50% of the total score of the assessment. To accomplish this you would enter in .50(percentages need to be entered in decimal format) into the Section Weight (%) field and click Save.
You would repeat this step for the remainder of the section templates on the assessment template keeping in mind that the combined section weight %’s should total to 100.
Next, you will dig one level deeper into the section template by clicking on a Question Template Id.
You are now viewing the question template page that displays all the details related to the question template you have selected. Here you will see the field Question Weight. This is the total amount of points that can be given to this question. Click Edit to input a value for this field.
You are now on the Question Template Edit page where you will input the Question Weight into the respective field. For example, let’s say that you want this question to be worth a total of 10 points you would enter the value 10 into the Question Weight field and click Save.
You would repeat this step to set question weights for the remaining question templates on the assessment.
There is still one level of scoring that you have to input and that in the Answer Option Weight(%). To input this value you will dig one level deeper to the answer option template by clicking on the answer option.
You are now on the answer option page where you will see all the details related to that answer option. Here you will see the field Answer Option Weight(%). To input a value here you will click on Edit.
The answer option weight(%) is the percent of the total question weight that will be awarded if that answer option is selected. For example, this question weight is set at a value of 10 so if you input .1 into the answer option weight(%) and Save when this answer option is selected it will be awarded 1 point.
You would repeat this step for the remaining answer options on the assessment template. Once you have completed all of the above steps for the entire assessment template you have successfully set up assessment scoring for the assessment template.
